how to dress Hello Kitty as a punk?
CASE STUDY

OBJECTIVES:

MY ROLE:

Every boy and girl have encountered the one plushie friend who comforts them in their life. That plushies have been with the kid through their childhood. It’s dressed in the same outfit, same hair, or same accessories for year after year. As the child grows up, that plushie tends to be less involved in their life. Interests change over time.  Instead of ridding or throwing away that plushie, you can pizazz it up to suit your unique taste. Dress it up! Or, even turn it into something you never thought of.
1. Research, if there is a high volume of ridding or throwing away old plushies.
2. Find the target audience of children who collect or create special plushies.
3. Educate families and children about refurbishing plushies.
4. You’re never too old to dress-up plushies and add to your collection.
5. You can exercise your creativity or think of themes for your plushies.
Project Owner/Manager
UX/UI Designer
The challenge is keeping plushies from being donated or thrown away to Goodwill or Salvation Army , when parents realize children grown bored with it. They don’t want it taking up space. The employer would be toy manufacturers like Mattel, Hasbro, Sanrio or etc. I interviewed children from the ages of 5 - 13 and young adults, whether they still keep their plushies in their rooms. I also asked how often do they play with their plushies and if they change up their plushie clothes. Some of them do dress them up.  For the ones that grow out of their plushies, they give them away.

PERSONA:
The intended mood and emotion to be evoked by this mood board is goth, feminine, and edgy. I like to incorporate hot pink, grays and black. I’ll be using black as a more dominant color.
RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT:
To get started in transforming your plushie into something you want to keep, the kid can choose a theme. For this project, I went with the theme “Punk.” I believe this website can be expanded to other themes; such as, western, sea, birthday, and etc. The list can go on and on. For this project, it’ll be punk themed.
I decided on implementing two design processes, the Minimum Viable Product (MVP) approach and Lean UX when developing the website. For MVP on each page, I used a full cycle of the Build, Measure, Learn Loop. This method allows you to quickly build the page and test it. After successfully completing one page, I can move onto the next without any difficulties. All the problems or issues would have been solved, after the first step. So, I repeat the cycle again.
Secondly, I used Lean UX to build the site quickly as possible to test my assumptions about how users behave. So, this will help get a hypothesis. Also, I would use qualitative research to get insight on how the user interact with website. Then, I can make changes based on those findings.

VISUAL DESIGN:
I want the “how to dress hello kitty as a punk?” website to be eye-catching and very pink. Since I’m dressing-up Hello Kitty into a punk, I used hot pink and black as a contrast. She is usually dressed in pastel colors. I designed the pages to be very bold. And, each page describes each step in dressing-up your hello kitty in a punk style.  I deliberately used bad grammar to convey her punk attitude.
RESULTS:
Although this website is specifically taylored to the punk theme, I chose. It can be expanded creatively to other themes.
In conclusion, the purpose of this website is to teach children and young adults to freely express themselves. Expand your creativity to convey your punk themed vision for hello kitty or any other owned plushie.
